Overview:
Jennifer Breheny Wallace explores the causes and consequences of the "toxic achievement culture" affecting many students and families today. Based on extensive research and interviews, Wallace argues that the root problem is not just over-scheduling or academic pressure, but a lack of "mattering"—the fundamental human need to feel valued for who we are and to know that we can add value to others. The book provides a framework for parents and educators to push back against these pressures and center mattering in their homes and institutions.
